Purple Swamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio)

15 January 2008

Puttenhalli Lake, Near Yelahanka, Bangalore, Karnataka, India

Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS and 1.4xII on Canon 1D Mark III
ISO 200, 1/800 @ f6.3, Manual Exposure using Sekonic L308s Lightmeter

The Pureple Swamphen, also called as Purple Moorhen is an extremely shy bird. I was lying flat on the ground for a long time and was able to take this photos as it walked past me. In bird photography, always try to get eye level shot of the bird, especially for ground birds. You get pleasant out of focus background which makes the image pop out.
